According to trade reports, the Rohit Shetty comedy starring king Khan Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone touched the 400 Crore mark in its worldwide Gross collections on Sunday. The earlier record was held by Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots which had ended its run below Rs 400 Crore.
Even though there is some debate over the exact number, Chennai Express is way past the 200 Crore mark (approx Rs 220 Crore) on the domestic charts. Meanwhile the overseas collections stand in the range of Rs 110 Crore.
The film is now heading towards the end of its theatrical run, and is likely to wrap up at around Rs 340 Crore ‘Net’ (after excluding taxes from the final Gross). In its fourth weekend Chennai Express added Rs 3 Crore plus.
John Abraham’s Madras Café saw reasonable jumps in premium multiplexes over its second weekend and should manage a lifetime total of Rs 50 Crore, which is very good for a film of this genre.
The movie is expected to further add a huge chunk of revenue from non-theatrical sources, given the positive word of mouth.
Satyagraha picked up rather well over the weekend and collected close to Rs 40 Crore, which is above trade estimates, since the film got negative reviews on its opening day.
However the film will have to sustain itself well in the coming days, to close at a respectable number, since next week is a crowded one with the release of Shuddh Desi Romance and Zanjeer
and 3rd week collection of chennai Express screen shoot
Mumbai: Shahrukh Khan, riding on the success of Chennai Express, in response to the love and affection shown by his fans worldwide Shah Rukh Khan has today announced a groundbreaking global integration with Twitter India and ZipDial in which everyone living in India can follow and engage with him on Twitter via SMS.
Effective immediately, anyone with a mobile phone in India can follow @iamsrk on Twitter by dialing (or giving a missed call) at 09015500555. The experience works for 100% of mobile users in India on any phone, any operator network and is completely free, irrespective of whether they have a Twitter account or data-enabled phone.
Commenting on the integration, Shah Rukh Khan said, "I have always believed in the power of technology and use it in various ways to further my connection with my audience. In recent years, Twitter has been a magical place for me to engage with my fans. I hope all my fans in India will avail this new service to connect with me. I thank ZipDial and Twitter India for helping me inaugurate this innovation and help bring together my entire national audience who don't access Twitter. Very soon I hope to also expand this to multiple countries, languages and platforms."
Rishi Jaitly (Twitter India, Market Director) said, "Twitter is the world's leading real-time information network where hundreds of millions of people follow the people and organizations that interest them. In India, Twitter among other things brings our users closer to their favourite stars and icons. We are pleased to see Shah Rukh Khan and ZipDial use the Twitter platform in this way."
Shah Rukh Khan's latest film, Chennai Express, which has set records at the box office, has also made Twitter history in India as the first film to be listed in the top trends for more than 10 consecutive days with innovative hashtags and multiple campaigns. It has also become the first Indian film in twitter history to trend at worldwide no 1 with two separate hashtags #ChennaiExpress and #ChennaiExpressWeekend.
Commenting on this integration, Shailja Gupta, Chief Digital Strategist for Shah Rukh Khan says, "Shah Rukh has a worldwide reach running into more than 3 billion which is a tough act to match in comparision to some of the internationally renowned celebrities on twitter. However, due to the demographics and limited number of data enabled phones and the exposure of twitter in India the followings don't reflect the absolute popularity. With the wide market of feature phones, lot of people in India don't use twitter and we wanted to reach out to the maximum audience on the platforms they are available on. What better way than to use the SMS technology. We are thrilled to partner with Twitter India and ZipDial to bring digital and mobile together in a historic way.” @Shailja adds, “Our target is to reach 50 million within a year. We have always prioritized digital marketing in a big way and with the support of SRK's fans and fan clubs all our digital endeavours have paid off very well till date and we hope to continue to do so."
Commented Valerie Wagoner, ZipDial's Founder & CEO, "ZipDial is Asia's leading mobile marketing and analytics platform, especially leveraging the simple and free user experience of 'missed calls'. The ZipDial-Twitter service provides an unmatched platform on which to expand the reach of mobile content. We are delighted to help make this service available for Shah Rukh Khan and his vast Indian audience."
This integration has been achieved in association with ZipDial and Twitter India. Twitter was founded on SMS and is presently available across SMS across many Indian operators.

Months after the Jab Tak Hai Jaan-Son Of Sardar drama got over, Shahrukh Khan for the first time worked with Ajay Devgn's close friend and filmmaker Rohit Shetty in Chennai Express. Chennai Express turned out to be a massive hit and broke all the previous Indian Box Office records. On the other hand, Rohit Shetty-Ajay Devgn's jodi and their famous Golmaal comedy series have always been people's favourite. Talking about the same, Shahrukh instead of expressing his past vent on Devgn, he said, "Rohit and Ajay have a very beautiful jodi. I don`t think anything like this can be made. A franchise of three films (`Golmaal' series) that too so successful. I think it`s a record of sorts". "The kind of franchise `Golmaal` is, it is the first of its kind in our country. The best thing is everyone plays different characters. I think that is very, very special," Khan added. No wonder, Shahrukh is a really friendly person and never carries negative baggage or past with him.
Shahrukh Khan apparently met with filmmaker R Balki privately to talk about a possible new movie. The new film would bring Amitabh Bachchan and SRK together in the new Bollywood movie.
Times of India reported that Balki met with Khan for a few hours to talk about a new movie and possibly work with Bachchan as well. SRK asked Balki to go ahead with the plan and begin shooting.
Big B has also told the newspaper that he would be doing a film with Balki soon, however, it is unclear whether or not it is the same film or two different ones.
Balki was asked if he would begin shooting with SRK soon, and he said, “Nope.” However, sources indicate there is indeed a development in that space. Balki wanted to remain silent on the topic, perhaps to leave everything a surprise.
In the meantime, SRK is currently in the process of working on his newest film, “Happy New Year” alongside Deepika Padukone. Farah Khan, director, also announced that Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah will also be featuring in her new movie.
Not only will Deepika Padukone play the heroine of the film, but Jackie Shroff is also starred to play the villain.
Shahrukh Khan will be playing the role of a psycho lover in the film. Ever since his role in “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaynge,” SRK has been known as the passionate lover, therefore always maintaining a romantic image on the big screen. Even after seeing “Chennai Express,” Khan has kept his romantic reputation as he fought for his leading lady. Now, the director wants King Khan to play a lover with a twist.
Padukone will be seen in the role of a dancer in the movie, playing a Marathi girl.
The film is expected to start filming in Dubai on September 2.
